The City of Mandurah is excited to announce the release of the Draft Economic Development Strategy, a comprehensive plan designed to create a sustainable and competitive economy for the community.
The vision of the Draft Economic Development Strategy is to build a vibrant and thriving Mandurah. It is based on consultation with key stakeholders, ensuring it reflects the needs and aspirations of Mandurah’s community.
The recently endorsed Strategic Community Plan outlines six key community outcomes for Mandurah’s economy. These outcomes have been incorporated into the Draft Economic Development Strategy, and include:
- Local jobs to retain people and attract skilled workers.
- A diversified economy that supports growth sectors.
- Well-planned, sustainable urban development.
- A thriving city that residents are proud to call home.
- A supportive business environment where investment is encouraged, and entrepreneurship prospers.
- A highly skilled workforce supported by strong education and training opportunities.
The strategy outlines the specific economic development projects that will be prioritised over the next 5-10 years. Examples of potential projects to be explored include:
- Housing density reform: to encourage new housing development in central Mandurah
- Sustainable eco-tourism development: to plan for increased protection and activation of Yalgorup National Park
- Supporting the development of an aged-care training and workforce centre: to provide opportunities for Mandurah residents to train in and receive high-quality aged care.
The Draft Economic Development Strategy is now available for review and feedback on Mandurah Matters before being presented to the Council for endorsement.
Residents, businesses, and stakeholders are encouraged to provide their feedback before 23 August 2024.
